Trend: Secret Menus (Jamba Juice)

Trend: Secret Menus (Jamba Juice)

posted by Mighty Staff

We aren't going to pretend we were the first to report that Jamba Juice has "off-menu" items available (a la In-N-Out)....but we did confirm it with a source at Jamba headquarters this week. Our source's favorite secret flavor? PB+J. Some call it "off menu" but "secret" seems so much more mysterious and exciting. We still aren't sure if the undercover "menu" has been adopted by all the Jamba stores (yet), but we'll let you know more as we find out.

Apparently some of these smoothies are back-catalog flavors that have been put out to pasture. Others are flavors that no self-respecting "healthy" food-and-beverage company could get away with having on the actual menu.

Update 6/12/06: It looks like the secret menu has been rolled out officially to all Jamba locations - this is just in the past couple of months, prior to that it was more 'casual' and varied from location to location. From our source at Jamba headquarters.

Secret menu flavors we've heard of:

- Strawberry Shortcake
- White Gummy Bear
- PB+J
- One that tastes just like Starbursts
- One that tastes just like Fruity Pebbles
- Push-up Pops
- One that tastes like Skittles

Know of any others? Add to the comments.

these smoothies were made up by us team members when we get creative/bored. some were so good, that they spread. ex: white gummi which was invented in hawaii, and now is common for high schoolers to get in southern california.

Jamba Juice engages in the same duplicitous marketing as most other corporations, yet it refuses to serve ANY organic products. That means those smoothies you drink are filled with genetically modified organisms, pesticides, hormones, etc. Read the below letter for more info...

Dear Jennifer,

Of course the 'bottom line' at Jamba Juice is the same as it is at every corporation: profit. I suppose I incorrectly assumed that the folks who started this company had the intention of avoiding "business as
usual." Business as usual is responsible for things like cancer epidemics, global warming, the alienation and destruction of local farmers(just to name a few issues close to my heart). You are not, at all, offering the "highest quality products
available" and any such claim is an outright lie. The truth is that Jamba Juice is offering substandard products to
its customers, under the banner of healthy living, so it can make a little bit more money.

Also, I disagree that your customers wouldn't be willing to pay more for a higher quality product. I would. Everyone I know would. Especially at the branches of your stores that are within Whole Foods
Markets. WFM holds itself to much higher standards than Jamba Juice seems to, and its customers pay the higher prices, day
in and day out. The benefit of raising the bar is that you will encourage farms and farmers to grow organic foods. If a huge corporation like Jamba Juice went organic, farmers would scramble to get
your contract. You could be a sustainable company in a few years. Its that easy. The more mainstream organic living becomes, the cheaper it is(for us the customers, and you the producers). The strawberries would be rolling in faster than you
could count them.

Here are a few ideas: go organic at a few stores, maybe those inside WFM. Or offer organic options for health conscious customers. Negotiate an agreement with Whole Foods, agree to purchase some of the fruits and vegetables they offer. These are just a few ideas, I have lots more.

If Jamba Juice won't promote organic products, how on earth can we expect mainstream supermarket chains and agricultural conglomerates to do so. Even Wal-Mart offers organic options. Jamba Juice should be ashamed that Wal-Mart has surpassed them in providing nutritious options to their customers.

I'm planning on passing along this email strain to several listserves, as well as publications that inform customers of duplicitous marketing. Along with a detailed response, I would appreciate a
clear explication of what "jamba specifications" are. I would also like to know from whom you get your fruits.

Sincerely, Shelby Eidson

Tropical Tango for me, was good the first time, and every time after that... it was a disappointment.

Red Gummy Bears is better with OJ sub for soy milk, and MORE strawberries(instead of bananas... i forget if they use bananas) blah... i just know MORE strawberries=good, and more fro yo Or OJ is better as well.

White gummy bears to me was very nauseating. I hated it. It DEFINITELY tastes like white gummy bears, but you'll love it if you like the white gummy bears.

So thos eof you saying "why'd you order it if you hate the taste?"

Well.. I was trying to get "RED gummy bears" but i ONLY said "gummy bears" and she assumed WHITE instead of RED.. and she never asked me which gummy bear flavor i wanted so yeah... that's what happened. It was pretty disappointing. lol

Butterfingers is the best. Even folks that are aware of the scret menu don't know about the BF.

It comes from putting carrot juice in the peanut butter mood. The problem is I don't know the right mix, and it doesn't taste right unless the mix is right.

The Mira Mesa, CA store is where I sed to get them. But just up the road in Carmel Mtn, they just look at you like your stupid if you mention it.

Despite the news that the menus are given to every store, I think it is still store by store.
